Obamania
Ich mag ihn. Ich weiß, das ist keine politikwissenschaftliche Kategorie. Tell me about it! Ich mag ihn trotzdem. Er redet gut. Er hat gute Ideen. Er ist witzig, selbstironisch (das mag ich besonders), erklärt komplizierte Sachen einfach, aber nicht platt. Er ist multi-tasking-fähig…. ;) Letzten Donnerstag ist er in Jay Lenos Late Night Show aufgetreten. Dafür ist er von den Conservatives kritisiert worden: er möge sich doch lieber um die Finanzkrise kümmern. Obama meinte dazu: Ein Präsident muss gehen und Kaugummi kauen gleichzeitig können.
Der Auftritt ist überhaupt sehr sehenswert. Nicht nur small-talk Chit-Chat. Wenn der auch sehr lustig ist. Er meint, sein Governement müsse daran arbeiten, die Einstellung der Leute ändern. Jugendliche sollen, wenn sie vom College kommen nicht davon träumen Investment BankerInnen zu werden, weil das die coolen Jobs sind. Sondern WissenschafterInnen, IngeneurInnen, LehrerInnen, Leute, die etwas beitragen zur Gemeinschaft. Eine große Aufgabe, die er sich da gesetzt hat – make science sexy ;)
ManagerInnen müssen wissen wann es genug ist: “They have to know, enough is enough”. Zu dem lange versprochenen Hund für seine Töchter meint er: “Look, look, listen. This is Washington. This was a Campaign Promise. No, I´m just teasing. The dog will be there… shortly.” – “Actually, I think I will have a lot of fun with it, too. You know, they say, I you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”
Barack Obama hat, für einen Präsidenten, eine recht interessante Geschichte. Auch wenn vielleicht viele Sachen geglättet sind, Dreams from My Father, das Buch, dass er 1995 publiziert hat, spricht trotzdem noch eine recht klare Sprache über die sozialen und politischen Probleme in den USA im Allgemeinen und im Besonderen für AfroamerikanerInnen. Und es ist gut geschrieben – easy reading. Ob er die Sachen wirklich alle so erlebt hat… ok, vielleicht nicht. Trotzdem, er vermittelt den Menschen das Gefühl, dass er ihre Sorgen und Ängste, ihre Nöte und Probleme versteht. A man of the people. Guter linker Populismus. In Europa schaffen sowas das immer nur die Rechten.

One sunny day in 2009, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Ave, where he’d been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the US Marine standing guard and said, “I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.”
The Marine looked at the man and said, “Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The old man said, “Okay” and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, “I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.”
The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The man thanked him and, again just walked away
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same US Marine, saying “I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.”
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I’ve told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don’t you understand?”
The old man looked at the Marine and said, “Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.”
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, “See you tomorrow, Sir.”
